A usually male dominated space like motorsports, are going through an evolution. Women, even though always present, are becoming a voice of change in paddocks all over the world. From engineering, driving, and hospitality to one of the most important, the fans. Formula one, Indycar, and Nascar have been the one with the most female viewership growth thanks to the exposure in the media. Even though some fans did come into the sport thanks to shows like Drive to survive, and a 100 Days to Indy. A lot of these girls came into it because of growing into a family that loved racing, or they found it through friends and edits on TikTok.
The website gitnux.org says that “Industry-wide, 40% of motorsports fans are women, and female participation”. The latest indycar analysis by fox said that female viewership went up 72%. Those are just examples of how women in motorsports are so influential. Laura Winter made a speech during a race weekend that coincidently also landed on International Women’s Day on F1TV last year (2024) after the inaugural F1 academy race in Saudi Arabia where women were not legally allowed to drive till 2018. The speech brought out a lot of emotions for women, a lot of us motorsport fans feeling like it was our own version of the Barbie movie monologue. It made us feel empowered and like we belonged in the community. To this day girls use it all over social media to find their mutuals or to make beautiful edits highlighting their experiences on racetracks. The creativity I’ve seen from these videos is out of this world, and the way they tug on your heartstrings, only women can achieve that type of empathy and emotion.
This doesn’t come without its hardships, women on social media that make content for any type of racing, face the typical hate, nonsense and blocks from men. It seems like a girl can’t enjoy anything without having a guy question their level of knowledge or just plain out saying that they are only a fan of it because a driver is attractive. This happens in every sport; women are always the ones being questioned. Sometimes they make it feel like we just can’t exist in the same space as them. All the data is there women are the ones making motorsports bigger and safer for the community. As someone that goes to races and makes content about it, I can certainly attest to this. From Meet ups to exchange crafts to silly TikTok’s; We are the ones that are basically doing the advertising and making it more known, the ones making the change on the racetracks, paddocks and grandstands. Women in motorsports, we are a strong unit and I can’t wait to see how much bigger we can make it next year.

Good spousure.
